Iraqi Al-Sharqiyah Television between 0800 and 1300 gmt on 31 December carried the following reports on Iraq security incidents in its news summaries:
At 0800 gmt, Al-Sharqiyah reports that two Iraqi policemen were killed and eight others, including two civilians, were wounded early Saturday [31 December] after two explosive charges went off in two separate Baghdad areas. According to Ministry of the Interior sources, two policemen were killed and four others, including two civilians, were wounded after an explosive charge targeted an Iraqi police patrol in Bab al-Mu'azzam area in Baghdad. The second incident took place in Al-Dawrah, Baghdad, when an explosive charge went off wounding two commando police elements.
Within the same newscast, the channel reports that five Iraqis were killed and 23 wounded on 30 December in Al-Kifah Street, Baghdad, when two mortar shells hit a public cafe and a car in the street.
In its 1100 gmt cast, the channel quotes Iraqi police sources as saying that five unidentified bodies were found in Al-Rustumiyah, south of Baghdad. It adds that the victims were tied up and shot dead in the head and that signs of torture could be seen on the bodies.
The channel also reports that a US soldier serving for the Baghdad Task Force was killed Friday after his vehicle, which was part of a military patrol, hit an explosive charge in southern Baghdad.
Within the same cast, the channel reports that US troops have launched another military operation, Operation Spider Web, in Al- Jazeera area, Al-Anbar. The operation targeting local towns and villages includes large scale raid-and-search campaigns and has resulted in the arrest of dozens of local people aged 15 to 50, Al- Sharqiyah's correspondent says.
Al-Sharqiyah cites eye-witnesses as saying that US soldiers shot dead a driver of a civilian car that collided "unintentionally" into a military convoy in the industrial zone in Al-Ramadi.
Al-Sharqiyah's correspondent in the city of Hit, near the Syrian borders, quotes arrivals from the city as saying that nine people were seriously injured in confrontations between gunmen and US troops. Seven people were injured when the US troops shot a small van.
The station reports within the same 1100 gmt news summary that five civilians were killed Saturday when an explosion shattered their vehicle near an Iraqi Islamic Party [IIP] office in Al- Khalis, Diyala. IIP says that none of its members was injured in the explosion, which is believed to have targeted the party and which injured two civilians as well.
