Text of report by Israel radio on 6 January
[Acting Israeli Prime Minister] Ehud Olmert has met MK [Knesset member] Shimon Peres in his Jerusalem bureau. At the end of the meeting, Peres said that he is extremely worried and anxious following reports about a deterioration in Sharon's condition. Peres said that during the meeting with Olmert, they discussed continuing Sharon's policy: a tough war against terrorism and a determined effort on the peace process track. He described the meeting as open and good and said that they will meet again next week. Peres refused to comment on the possibility of his returning to the Labour Party, saying that he will make an announcement only after an additional meeting with Olmert.
Our political correspondent Shmuel Tal reports that Olmert is continuing the round of working meetings and that his aides are continually updating him on security and political issues.
