Earthquake jolts northern Japan, felt in Tokyo
TOKYO (Reuters) – A moderate earthquake with a preliminary
magnitude of 5.9 jolted the Tohoku region of northern Japan on
Friday, shaking buildings in Tokyo.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, and
no tsunami warning was issued, public broadcaster NHK said.
The focus of the quake at 11:37 p.m. EST was 19 miles below
the seabed off the Pacific coast.
