Riyadh, 3 February: A well-placed Saudi source ruled out on Friday [3 February] technical problems or overloading as reasons behind Al-Salam 98 ferryboat sinking 57 miles off Hurghada overnight Friday.
Mahmud al-Harbi, director of Dhaba port, told MENA that weather conditions were favourable at the time.
The cruiser was in good condition, Al-Harbi said, adding that if there were any technical problems the cruiser would not have been allowed to set sail.
The cruise liner went down during an overnight journey from Dhaba in Saudi Arabia to Egypt's Safaga.
