Train Service Breaks India, Pakistan Tif
Train service has taken passengers from Pakistan to India, cooling tensions that plagued the two countries for half a century.
The Thar Express was greeted by traditional Indian dancers and music as it arrived in Munabao, India. The BBC reports the train is only the second to run between the formerly warring countries since 2004.
Despite ongoing disputes between the two nuclear powers, including control of the disputed Kashmir region, the Thar Express will operate this year between Khokrapar, Pakistan to Munabao, India.
It will be operated by each country for half the year.
Because of the conflict, many people in the region were not able to see family members for a long time. Mohammed Ali Azhar said he last went to India when he was 13 years old.
Now I am going to my home for the first time in 58 years, he said.
