Granting of Twelve Concessions to Drill for Oil

Al-Hayat newspaper reported on oil exploration in Tunisia as of the end of December 2005. The Tunisian government granted twelve concessions to foreign companies to drill for oil during 2005. Eight new oil wells were discovered, with average daily production of each one reaching 20,000 barrels. It is estimated that the total daily oil production in 2006 will reach 820,000 barrels. Concessions for oil exploration were given to the American Pascal Petroleum Company and the Austrian Geostat Technology Company.
