Sri Lanka targets 600,000 tourists in 2006
COLOMBO, March 4 (Xinhua) — The Sri Lankan Tourism Ministry and the Sri Lanka Tourist Board have set a target of 600,000 tourist arrivals by end 2006, Daily News reported Saturday.
To achieve the goal and promote Sri Lanka’s tourism both regionally and globally, several crash programs have already been introduced and other plans and policies are to kick off shortly, said Tourism Secretary P. Ramanujam.
Up to 52,000 tourist arrivals were recorded in January this year, said the official.
The total number of tourist arrivals to the country stood at 566,202 in 2004 and 549,308 in 2005.
