Cairo, 4 March: Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abu-al-Ghayt has reiterated Egypt's firm stand to support the Iraqi people and help them achieve stability and national unity in the face of attempts to divide their ranks and foment sedition. He affirmed that Egypt would spare no effort to help boost Iraqi national unity.

At a meeting with visiting Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, who is in Cairo to take part in the Arab foreign ministers' meeting, Abu-al-Ghayt expressed confidence in the Iraqi people's wisdom and awareness to face up to the advocates of division, disagreement, sectarianism and exploitation of the incident of blowing up the Shi'i shrine in Samarra to achieve harmful, evil aims that did not serve the interest of Iraq, its people and the region.

He strongly condemned terrorist acts irrespective of their source of aims. He referred to the need not to fall into the trap of sectarianism.

The foreign minister indicated that Egypt treated the Iraqi people as one people with no discrimination between its citizens or various factions.

Iraqi foreign minister reviewed during the meeting the recent developments on the Iraqi arena and the incidents aiming to drive a wedge between Shi'is and Sunnis.

Zebari also reviewed the ongoing consultations between various Iraqi political forces for forming the coming government in addition to the issue of holding a national reconciliation conference in coming June.
