Pakistani officials say more than 50 people have died in clashes between pro-Taliban militants and Pakistani troops near the Afghan border.
Officials said 46 militants and five soldiers died in fighting Saturday in North Waziristan, the BBC reported.
The BBC said the fighting is the fiercest since the military entered the area in 2003.
The violence occurred about 190 miles northeast of Islamabad, where President George Bush was declaring solidarity with Pakistan in the war against terror.
