Excerpt from report by Iranian TV on 8 March
The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA] started debating over Iran's nuclear dossier a few minutes ago. Mirvarzandeh reports from IAEA headquarters:
[Mirvarzandeh] Iran's case was finally put on the agenda of the IAEA Board of Governors on the third day of the meetings. This is while there are still considerable differences within the IAEA and among its member states.
While the IAEA and many of the members of the Board of Governors - in view of the technical problems of the Iranian case - urge the dossier to be dealt with inside the IAEA and oppose the intervention of other UN organization, some countries like America still continue their pressure to politicize the case.
[Ali Asghar Soltaniyeh, Iranian envoy to IAEA] The current atmosphere is a very negative against this unilateral approach [by America]. Many countries, including some European countries which we talk to, expected the case to reach a compromise and to be kept within the current organization, i.e. the IAEA. Of course, as I said, only a report will be sent there [UN Security Council]. Mr Al- Baradi'i and many other countries have reiterated, and you will see in statements which are to be issued today, that the IAEA is the only international organization that should deal with the case. [Passage omitted on Soltaniyeh's letter to Al-Baradi'i].
