Iraqi TV Updates Security Developments on 12 March

Al-Sharqiyah Television was observed to highlight the following security developments in Iraq on 12 March:

Within its 0900 gmt news bulletin, Al-Sharqiyah reports that "a bomb planted on a roadside near a railway in Al-Yarmuk area targeted a US military patrol this morning. The Iraqi Police said that the explosion caused the martyrdom of six Iraqi civilians and wounded 14 others." The report adds: "The US Army has not made any statements on the incident and the Iraqi Police did not give details on whether the explosion inflicted losses on the US patrol or not."

Al-Sharqiyah also reports that Baghdad witnessed a number of bombings on 11 March and on the morning of 12 March, "killing seven people".

Interior Ministry sources said that a mortar landed this morning in Alawi al-Hillah area in central Baghdad. The mortar attack "resulted in the martyrdom of two civilians and wounding six others", Al-Sharqiyah reported.

Furthermore, an explosive charge targeted an Iraqi Army patrol on 12 March in Al-Mustansiriyah neighbourhood in central Baghdad, "wounding five Iraqi soldiers".

Al-Sharqiyah also reported that "a mortar landed on an area in Jamilah neighbourhood in eastern Baghdad, wounding two civilians".

"Gunmen shot dead three people" in Al-Bayya area in southwestern Baghdad and managed to escape, the report says.

Reporting further on security developments, Al-Sharqiyah says that the Iraqi Police "yesterday night discovered the bodies of two officers working for the new Intelligence Department". The officers were "shot dead" in their car in Al-Jami neighbourhood in western Baghdad.

In Al-Dawrah area in southern Baghdad, "two policemen were wounded" when an explosive charge went off while their patrol was travelling, Al-Sharqiyah reports.

Al-Sharqiyah adds that "four mortars" landed on one of the neighbourhoods of Al-Za'faraniyah in southern Baghdad. No reports were received on human losses, the report notes.

Moreover, Al-Sharqiyah reports that officials at Al-Yarmuk Hospital in Baghdad said that the hospital received yesterday night "20 bodies" of people shot dead, mostly "victims of acts of violence".

Al-Sharqiyah also reports that "two explosive charges went off yesterday in Diyala Governorate": one in Al-Mu'alimin neighbourhood and the other in Al-Suq marketplace area in northeastern Baghdad, without causing any casualties.

"Gunmen shot dead three people", one of whom is a policeman, in the industrial area in the governorate, Al-Sharqiyah reported.

Al-Sharqiyah adds that "unidentified gunmen" in a car opened fire on civilians in Al-Salamah village in Al-Miqdadiyah City. The attack resulted in "the martyrdom of a civilian and wounded four others", the report says.
