Iran Will Not Brook Security Council Snub of National Interests - Minister

Tehran, 18 March: It would be unacceptable if the UN Security Council failed to take the legal rights of the Iranian nation into consideration in its decision on the Islamic Republics nuclear dossier, Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said on Saturday [18 March].

Speaking to reporters at the end of the annual gathering of Iranian diplomats stationed abroad, Mottaki said that familiarizing Iranian ambassadors and other diplomats with the foreign policy of the new administration was on the top of the agenda of the meeting.

It provided an opportunity for discussions of various aspects of international relations and briefings of Iranian diplomats on the exact positions of the new government, he added.

He went on to say that Iran's foreign policy priorities were spelled out during a meeting between the Iranian ambassadors and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamene'i.

The Iranian diplomats were also informed of President Mahmud Ahmadinezhad's stances in the area of foreign relations, Mottaki pointed out.

Commenting on the shift in Iran's diplomatic manoeuvres, Mottaki said: Some illogical behaviour by some illogical players as well as the creation of some ambiguities and some accusations have obliged us to adopt the role of a plaintiff and bring up some significant issues in international and bilateral relations.

Underlining the fact that some countries on the UN Security Council recognize Iran's nuclear rights, Mottaki stated that the nuclear negotiations are still under way and that Iran hopes that the Security Council will make fair, logical, and comprehensive decisions.
