Kandahar 22 March: The governor of Kandahar says that a delegation has been appointed to investigate the killing of Taleban in Spin Boldak.
When addressing a news conference this evening, Kandahar Governor Haji Asadollah Khaled said: "The authorities in Spin Boldak informed us that 17 Taleban fighters were killed in a clash last night."
The governor added: "The authorities told us that they had received information about a number of Taleban fighters coming from Pakistan to carry out attacks. They therefore waited for them and attacked them when they arrived, as a result of which 17 were killed."
The governor of Kandahar Haji Asadollah Khaled said: "The elders of the area protested today that those killed were not Taleban fighters but ordinary people who were killed as a result of personal animosity. This is why we have appointed a delegation to investigate and find out whether those killed were Taleban or ordinary people killed due to personal animosity." The governor said: "Those responsible will be punished."
Meanwhile, before receiving news about the killing of Taleban fighters in Spin Boldak, informed sources from the Pakistani border town, Chaman, told Afghan Islamic Press that a notorious thief, Commander Shin, and a number of his associates disappeared when they were seized by their enemies on the road as they were returning from Kabul two days ago. Now rumours have spread in Chaman that Commander Shin is among those killed.
It is believed that what really happened will be revealed once the investigation is completed.
