Riot police wielding truncheons clashed yesterday with demonstrators who held a protest rally against the disputed election that returned Belarus's hard-line President, Alexander Lukashenko, to power
. The opposition leader Alexander Kozulin was among the few protesters detained. The clashes occurred after riot police blocked the path of anti-government protesters marching to a jail where demonstrators arrested in previous protests were being held.
