Car bomb found at Israel-Gaza border: security source

April 26, 2006

GAZA (Reuters) – Palestinian security forces said they
seized an explosives-laden car near a Gaza border crossing with
Israel on Wednesday, thwarting an attack.

Near the Karni commercial goods terminal, on the
Gaza-Israel frontier, three Palestinian security men were
wounded in an exchange of fire with Palestinian gunmen in a
vehicle carrying explosives, a medical official said.

“The car did not explode and it is under our control,” a
security officer told Reuters.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said the military had received
a preliminary report of gunfire in the area and had closed the
crossing.

Citing security concerns, Israel has frequently shut the
Karni terminal, leading Palestinians and aid organizations to
complain of shortages of vital goods in the Gaza Strip.
