Thailand to expel jailed American pedophile
BANGKOK (Reuters) – An American English teacher is due to
be expelled from Thailand on Friday after serving a year in a
Thai jail for sexually molesting youths and will be tried again
in the United States, a senior Thai policeman said.
Immigration Police chief Suwat Tumrongsiskul said he did
not know what charges Steven Erik Prowler, 57, who was caught
last year at his apartment after having sex with two teenage
boys, would face in the United States.
Under the American legal system, Americans who engage in
illicit sexual conduct abroad can be charged at home.
“The U.S. authorities have revoked his passport after he
served his sentence in Thailand, paving the way for us to
deport him,” Suwat told Reuters on Thursday.
After a tip off on Prowler, who had lived in Thailand for
six years and taught English at a government school in Bangkok,
police found hundreds of postcard-sized photos of naked teenage
boys at his apartment.
They also found journals detailing his sexual exploits.
