13 die in horror South Africa road crash
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – Thirteen people were killed on a
South African highway after a pickup truck slammed into the
back of a minibus taxi which exploded into flames, Johannesburg
emergency services said on Sunday.
“All the bodies were burned beyond recognition … The
truck hit the taxi so hard from the rear that it was lodged
half-way inside it,” said emergency services spokesman Malcolm
Seven people including both drivers survived and were being
treated in hospital for injuries after the accident late on
Saturday night on a highway southwest of Johannesburg.
Minibus taxis are often involved in accidents on South
Africa’s notoriously dangerous roads as they tend to stop
unexpectedly to pick up or drop off passengers.
