Sri Lanka says Tigers attack northwest police post

COLOMBO (Reuters) – Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tiger rebels attacked
a police post in the northwest Mannar district by land and sea
on Saturday, a defense spokesman said on Saturday, while there
were reports of an explosion north of the capital.
“It is still going on,” said the spokesman of the Mannar
attack. There was no word on casualties, he said.
Reports of an explosion came from the town of Pamunugama
along the shoreline north of Colombo near the resort town of
Negombo, he said, although there were few details.
