S.Korea’s President cancels visit to North

June 20, 2006

SEOUL (Reuters) – Former South Korean President Kim
Dae-jung, who orchestrated an unprecedented summit with North
Korea’s leader in 2000, has canceled a trip to Pyongyang
planned for next week, South Korean broadcaster YTN said on
Wednesday.

The announcement comes as Seoul, Washington and Tokyo have
said there is evidence North Korea may conduct a test-launch of
a long-range missile, which the three have said would present a
grave danger to regional security.

Kim’s office will hold a news conference to explain why the
trip of the former president has been canceled.
