BEIRUT (CP) - A ship that Canada has chartered to take Canadians trapped by the fighting in southern Lebanon has arrived in the port city of Tyre.
Canadian officials in Beirut are in contact with staff on the ground in Tyre and they say the Cypriot ship is taking on people.
But there are no other details of the evacuation.
The ship is expected in Cyprus later Wednesday where the Canadians will be flown home.
It's believed hundreds of Canadians may be in southern Lebanon, unable to get to Beirut because many roads have been heavily damaged by Israeli bombing.
It's considered a dangerous evacuation because Tyre is at the centre of the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon.
