Bomb blasts offices of Iraqi newspaper
August 27, 2006
BAGHDAD (Reuters) – A car bomb exploded outside the offices
of the state-run newspaper al-Sabah in Baghdad on Sunday,
killing two people and wounding 20 others, police said.
Police said the car was parked in a lot outside the
building and more than 20 cars were destroyed or on fire.
They also said al-Sabah’s offices, in the northern Waziriya
district, had been severely damaged by the blast, but witnesses
spoke only of broken windows.
Insurgents fighting to topple the U.S.-backed Shi’ite-led
government of national unity often target journalists working
for state media.
