Wreckage of Missing Indonesian Plane Found
January 2, 2007
A passenger airliner that disappeared in bad weather in Indonesia was found Tuesday crashed in the mountains of Sulawesi.
The plane — operated by Adam Air — was flying from Surabaya in Java to Manado in Sulawesi when contact was lost.
At least 90 of the 102 passengers and crew were killed in the crash, the BBC reported. Antara, the Indonesian news agency, said 12 are known to have survived.
Weather in much of Indonesia has been stormy for several days. A ferry carrying more than 600 people sank late last week.
Adam Air is a discount airline based in Jakarta that began flying in 2003.
