Palestinian Factions Stop Peace Talks
Talks between the rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah in Gaza City were suspended because of violence in the territory.
Palestinian security and medical sources told CNN 11 people — including civilians and militants on both sides — died in three separate incidents Friday, CNN reported.
At the Jabalya refugee camp just north of Gaza City, eight people were killed and about 30 were wounded. Inside the city there were at least two killed and a two-year-old boy was also reportedly killed in Khan Yunis.
At least 18 people on both sides were kidnapped as well.
The two groups have been fighting over differing visions of a Palestinian state.
Hamas refuses to recognize that Israel exists.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, of the Fatah party, met with exiled Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, but the two failed to make progress.
However, CNN said both sides agreed further talks were necessary to end the violence.
