Hamas Says Ceasefire With Fatah Going Well
Hamas says ceasefire with Fatah going well
GAZA, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) — Palestinian ruling Hamas movement said on Wednesday that its fresh ceasefire with Fatah in Gaza was going well despite some breaches by the rival faction.
Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoom told media that his movement was committed to the ceasefire, hoping that “the coming hours will see a full implementation of the agreement.”
However, he said that Fatah has no strict control on some of its militants who often violates the truce, adding “we have asked Fatah to control its elements.”
The truce was brokered by Egyptian mediators and other factions following five days of bloody clashes between the ruling Hamas and the once-dominant Fatah, which has left at least 33 people dead.
Barhoom said the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement and the Egyptian security team are working on the resumption of inter- Palestinian talks to form a national unity government.
