The UN Security Council has already imposed limited sanctions following the country’s refusal to suspend the process and world powers have been meeting in London to discuss strengthening the sanctions regime.

However, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, repeated today that the demands of the West were “illegitimate” and would not be met.

The US and its allies accuse Iran of using uranium enrichment to develop nuclear weapons, but the Islamic state insists that the process is designed solely to generate electricity.
