Zimbabwe Party Leader ‘Tortured’
March 13, 2007
ZIMBABWE opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai was sent to hospital with a deep head wound after he arrived at court with dozens of others arrested during political protests.
Tsvangirai said in court earlier today he had suffered “terrible” treatment in police custody: “It was sadistic to attack defenceless people.”
Tsvangirai and about 50 protesters were said to have been tortured after their arrest on Sunday during a prayer meeting to protest at the country’s political crisis under president Robert Mugabe.
