Pakistan Cricket Team Leaves Jamaica
The Pakistan cricket team has left Jamaica after being questioned and fingerprinted by police regarding last weekend’s mysterious death of coach Bob Woolmer.
The team, which arrived in London on Sunday, had been temporarily detained by Jamaican authorities in an effort to clear up ambiguities in statements from three team members, CNN said.
Team spokesman Pervez Mir said that as part of the investigation into Woolmer’s death, police took DNA samples and fingerprints from the entire Pakistani contingent.
Woolmer was found dead in his hotel room in Kingston last Sunday hours after his team lost to Ireland in the World Cricket Cup competition.
Former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Nasim Ashraf said that prior to his death, Woolmer had sent him an e-mail stating he would retire in the wake of the embarrassing loss.
CNN said that the homicide investigation has looked into allegations of match-fixing and betting as possible motives for Woolmer’s death.
