Pakistan’s cricket players were trying to unwind in a British hotel last night after leaving Jamaica where police continue to investigate the murder of their coach Bob Woolmer.

The team flew into London’s Heathrow Airport yesterday morning but did not comment as they were ushered out of the terminal and on to a waiting coach before checking into a hotel nearby.

Captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and his players will stay in the capital until tomorrow before flying home, according to Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman Pervez Mir.

He said the last week had been “incredibly stressful” for the players and he reiterated comments that it was “unthinkable” that the team could be involved in Mr Woolmer’s death. Meanwhile, in the Caribbean, police said they were studying “comprehensive” CCTV footage of the 12th-floor of the hotel where Woolmer – who as coach lead Warwickshire to string of triumphs in the 1990s – was found dead last Sunday.

The 58-year-old former England player died after being found unconscious in his room a day after Pakistan’s shock defeat to Ireland in the Cricket World Cup. He had been strangled.

Mr Mir, who also flew into the UK with the team, said the players had co-operated “fully” with the Jamaican authorities and would continue to do so in the future.
