BRAMPTON, Ont. (CP) – An eight-year-old girl was in critical condition Wednesday after being resuscitated by emergency crews following a school bus crash that left several of her classmates seriously injured.

"She’s undergoing further tests and scans. She was very seriously injured in the incident," Terry O’Donovan, a spokesman for William Osler Health Centre, reported. Emergency crews at the crash scene in Brampton, Ont., northwest of Toronto, found the girl with vital signs absent, said O’Donovan.

"We did have our teams attend to her immediately and she has been resuscitated."

O’Donovan said five children suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Ontario provincial police say the bus collided with a transport truck on Highway 410 in Brampton and veered into a median ditch.

School boards officials say the children were Grade 4 students on a field trip.

There was an unconfirmed report earlier that at least one person was killed in the crash, but police later said there were no fatalities.
