Wave of Baghdad Bombings Kills 171

A series of bombings rocked Baghdad Wednesday killing at least 171 people and injuring more than 230 others, reports said.
The biggest death toll was from an explosion at the Sadriya market in central Baghdad, where 122 people died and 150 were wounded, Iraq's Interior Ministry said.
An attack near an Iraqi army checkpoint outside Sadr City killed 28 and injured 44, CNN reported. A car bomb blast near a hospital in Baghdad's Karrada district killed 11 civilians and wounded 13.
Four police officers were killed by a bomb at a southern Baghdad checkpoint, and nearly all the other fatalities were civilians, the report said. Two officers and two civilians were killed and eight people wounded in a bombing near a police checkpoint in southwestern Baghdad, and a roadside bomb at a central Baghdad intersection killed two civilians and wounded nine.
Earlier, the U.S. military said four insurgents were killed and 30 suspected terrorists were arrested by U.S. forces near the Iraqi city of Fallujah. Two insurgents were killed in coalition raids in the cities of Taji and Mosul.
In a statement, the military said forces raided a group of buildings known to be used by insurgents and found explosive materials outside Fallujah, 30 miles west of Baghdad, CNN reported.
Elsewhere, British forces turned over security control in Maysan province to Iraqi army troops.
