Rostropovich dies
Russian cellist and composer Mstislav Rostropovich died on Friday at the age of 80.
“It is with great sadness that Russia’s Federal Culture Agency has to announce that today, on April 27, the great musician Mstislav Rostropovich died,” a spokeswoman for Russia’s state culture agency said.
The cellist’s death was announced four days after the death of his friend, former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, whom Rostropovich had joined on the barricades to resist a coup in 1991.
