THE body of the Taliban’s chief in southern Afghanistan was shown off to the world yesterday to prove he is dead.

One-legged Mullah Dadullah was believed to have been killed in a firefight with Afghan and Western troops in Helmand province.

He had been resposible for ethnic massacres, beheadings and the kidnap of foreigners.

Dadullah was a right-hand man of Taliban leader Mullah Omar. Kandahar governor Asadullah Khalid said: “Mullah Dadullah was the backbone of the Taliban

“He was a brutal and cruel commander who killed and beheaded Afghan civilians.”

Dadullah had three bullet wounds – one in the back of the head and two in the stomach.

Despite his body being put on show, the Taliban claimed their leader was still alive.

Dadullah often appeared in propaganda videos and earlier this year, he promised a spring offensive of suicide bombers.

Dadullah, who insisted Osama bin Laden was alive and well, lost a leg fighting the Soviet occupiers in the 80s.
