Hashtag Among The Many English Words Banned By French Officials

Attention Twitter users living in and around Paris, Marseille, and Nice: the government officials in charge of inventing French-language replacements for foreign-language words would like you to stop referring to the symbol used to tag your microblogging posts as a “hashtag.”

Word of the Day
ween
  • To think; to imagine; to fancy.
  • To be of opinion; have the notion; think; imagine; suppose.
The word 'ween' comes from Middle English wene, from Old English wēn, wēna ("hope, weening, expectation"), from Proto-Germanic *wēniz, *wēnōn (“hope, expectation”), from Proto-Indo-European *wen- (“to strive, love, want, reach, win”).
