2-Faced Baby is Hailed As an Indian Goddess

Posted on: Wednesday, 9 April 2008, 09:00 CDT

A baby with two faces was born in a northern Indian village, where she is doing well and is being worshipped as the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess, her father said Tuesday.

The baby, Lali, apparently has an extremely rare condition known as craniofacial duplication, where a single head has two faces. Except for her ears, all of Lali's facial features are duplicated - she has two noses, two pairs of lips and two pairs of eyes.

"My daughter is fine - like any other child," said Vinod Singh, 23, a poor farm worker.

Lali has caused a sensation in the dusty village of Saini Sunpura, 25 miles east of New Delhi. When she left the hospital, eight hours after a normal delivery on March 11, she was swarmed by villagers, said Sabir Ali, the director of Saifi Hospital.

"She drinks milk from her two mouths and opens and shuts all the four eyes at one time," Ali said.

Rural India is deeply superstitious and the little girl is being hailed as a return of the Hindu goddess of valor, Durga, a fiery deity traditionally depicted with three eyes and many arms.

Up to 100 people have been visiting Lali at her home every day to touch her feet out of respect, offer money and receive blessings, Singh told The Associated Press.

"Lali is God's gift to us," said Jaipal Singh, a member of the local village council. "She has brought fame to our village."

Village chief Daulat Ram said he planned to build a temple to Durga in the village.

"I am writing to the state government to provide money to build the temple and help the parents look after their daughter," Ram said.

Lali's condition is often linked to serious health complications, but the doctor said she was doing well.

"She is leading a normal life with no breathing difficulties," said Ali, adding that he saw no need for surgery.

Lali's parents were married in February 2007. Lali is their first child.

Singh said he took his daughter to a hospital in New Delhi where doctors suggested a CT scan to determine whether her internal organs were normal, but Singh said he felt it was unnecessary.

"I don't feel the need of that at this stage as my daughter is behaving like a normal child, posing no problems," he said.

I'm still in hopes that all these children whom are born just a little bit different will eternally be held in high regard by the people around them. The whole world needs to know that just because someone is born a little bit different than most, that doesn't make them a bad person. What makes a person a bad person is if he or she grows up to be a bank robber or pusher! Anyone born with a physical or some other disability or difference, that does not mean that they can't be a very good person, a very intelligent person and a very productive person while living on this earth. People need to realize there are many more kinds of people than just one. There are gay people, there are straight people, there are oriental people, there are white people and so on. And so forth. These Indian children I'm learning about inspire me and I can't see anything "wrong" with them, we can only see something physically different with them. These physical differences don't mean that they can't have hearts of pure gold or have any career that they want to in life. I hope they will be blessed and for all their lives, be rich and healthy!

I hope she will be held in a high regard by everyone for her whole life. I will say this, the tongue is a two edged sword. With the left blade of my tongue, I can say, "She is a two faced person and not, to be trusted." But with the right side of my tongue I can say "Two heads, are better than one." Can you see what I'm saying here? I think these tongues can put it any way these minds can think it. Is she a goddess, well maybe if she could wave her arms in the air and cause rose petals to fall from the sky the answer is yes, but on the other hand, and from the other blade of my tongue, if she is a very good person who never says anything or does anything to hurt anyone other, is she then a goddess in my eyes, the answer is, yes!

It is not just a thing of India. If anyone has visited Ripleys Believe it or not Museums, there was a guy long ago from China whom had two iris and two pupil in each eye. There have been incidents of people from China with protruding bones from their heads. Like horns. I'm guessing that in the United States, it would be more hush hush and "closet, closet" and anyone born in any way different would need to hide to escape persecution, I bet they would face shunning and ostracism. What I'm saying is that if one isn't beautiful like a Greek or Roman statue around here, especially a male, forget it. You'll be shunned. You'll be ostracised. Two percent of the population here might realize that it is what is on the inside of a person that counts, but as for the other ninety eight percent, look out, if every little hair isn't in place. They don't look for anything right with you, they all look for something wrong with you. I know this full, full well!

I more recently read of a kitten born with two faces like this, very simmilar to the girl. I feel it would be a very sweet and very appropriate jesture, for the kitten to be given to or perhaps purchased for the girl. I feel that she could have something that she could feel familiar with and have something that was much "like her." I hope that whoever owns the new kitten with two faces will consider what I have said here.

"India has a large po****tion, and they don't abort children with mutations like people in other countries would." No, they just abort girls instead to avoid paying dowries to get them married. To the extent that some towns in northern india haven't had a female baby born there in years.

Indians worship anything but the real God. Its typical of the Jesuit mind control program which has kept them in the dark for centuries. I think this is sick and is glorifying everything thats wrong with this papal planet. Durga! my ass

Seems like just a month or two ago we read a story about a girl with four arms and four legs that was born in India. I'm pleased that they are being respected instead of ostracized. In this country they would probably be shunned and ostracized. I wish them both good health and hope they always have everything they want and need...

I notice 95% of the time when there is a story of some kind of mutation, something amazing and rare it seems to come from india? I am curious why it is india has such a high percentage of mutations. Seems to be much more than places like China which is considered the most poluted nation. Any input?
