Two Montreal Cops Help Father Deliver Baby on Side of the Road

MONTREAL - Usually it's the police who flag down motorists, but this time a 40-year-old man pulled over a Montreal police cruiser seeking help for his wife who was about to give birth.
There was no time to make the trip to the hospital around 2 a.m. Wednesday, so two officers took quick action on the spot. Montreal police spokesman Laurent Gingras says the officers kept their cool, climbed inside the man's car and delivered a baby girl.
"It all happened in 10 minutes," said Gingras.
He says the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck during the delivery, but the officers were able to remove it without any complications.
The 35-year-old mother and child were taken to hospital.
"The mother and little girl are doing very well," Gingras said.
Gingras says officers get a first aid course during their training and part of it explains how to deal with unexpected emergencies like child birth.
