Butler County Race Car Driver OKs Plea Deal in Fight
A Butler County race car driver has accepted a tentative agreement in which he would plead guilty to assaulting another driver after a race at an Indiana County speedway last month.
John T. Garvin, 26, of Sarver, waived a preliminary hearing Thursday before Clymer District Judge George Thachik but agreed to plead guilty to simple assault when the case proceeds to Common Pleas Court.
Garvin’s attorney, Al Lindsay, said Garvin would agree to pay restitution to Richard Davis, 56, of Home, in exchange for the dismissal of an aggravated assault charge.
Garvin allegedly punched Davis after a June 7 race at Marion Center Speedway in East Mahoning. The drivers reportedly drove into each other during the contest.
Davis was treated at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for multiple skull fractures.
Garvin is free on $25,000 bond.
