‘Pantyhose Bandit’ Remains Unsnagged
By Joe Dwinell, Boston Herald
Jul. 24–Police are running out of patience with a Milford man with a taste for tights who keeps tossing queen-sized pairs of black pantyhose on a residential street, unnerving the neighbors.
Milford Police Chief Thomas O’Loughlin told the Herald yesterday he’s warning the married man his pantyhouse peccadillo will get him hosed for littering.
“Just knock it off,” said O’Loughlin to the nylon neighbor. “If you want to wear pantyhose, fine. Just don’t throw them on the street.”
The chief said the unnamed stocking stuffer has for three years been leaving a trail of mostly black, and occasionally nude-colored, pantyhose on a quiet road where children and moms walk and wait for the bus.
“It isn’t funny,” said Laurie Warich of Milford, who has picked up more than her share of the man’s lurid leftovers.
“It’s a freaky thing, but police tell me they need to catch him on tape doing it,” Warich added.
O’Loughlin said the middle-aged married man has been warned he faces a $100 fine for littering — if caught.
The chief said he can’t afford to stretch his resources to net this culprit. But O’Loughlin said he stitched together enough evidence to confront the suspect — who has no criminal record — and warned him to zip it up.
Until then, neighbors say they may launch an amateur sting with video cameras to catch the so-called “Pantyhose Bandit.”
