Black Bear Strolls in Front of N.Y. Diner
May 18, 2005
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Breakfast customers at a diner in downtown Binghamton, New York, got a rare treat this morning when a black bear strolled in front of the eatery.
The bear scampered through a parking lot behind the Binghamton federal building before crossing a river over to the city’s west side.
Police tracked the bear for a couple of hours until a state Department of Environmental Conservation officer shot it with a tranquilizer dart.
The 150-pound sedated bear was placed in a carrier and taken to a veterinarian’s office. The doctor gave the bear an antidote to wake him up, so the animal could fend for itself when it was released in a less-populated area.
