You Want a Loofah With That Whopper?

August 14, 2008

XENIA, Ohio – A video posted on Myspace.com shows an employee of the Burger King in Xenia taking a bath in a kitchen sink as other employees look on or continue working.

“It’s my birthday and I’m taking a bath in the sink at Burger King,” the tattooed worker tells the camera. “Somebody bring me a beer!”

Greene County Health Commissioner Mark McDonnell was not amused.

“It’s a sophomoric, childish stunt,” McDonnell said Tuesday. “The biggest problem we had with it was the potential for food equipment contamination.”

Burger King spokeswoman Denise Wilson said, “All employees associated with the video no longer work with the company.”

The company said it was cooperating with the health department and was retraining staffers in health and sanitation procedures.

Timothy Tackett, 25, told WDTN-TV in Dayton that he is the sink- bather and that he made the video for his MySpace page. The video had been removed by Tuesday night.

Tackett said he regretted taking the bath because it led to the firing of the employee who did the recording, as well as the restaurant’s shift manager.

McDonnell said someone e-mailed the video, shot Aug. 7, to the health department on Monday.

The health department responded immediately, he said, but issued no citations because Burger King had already taken corrective action.

“They had already discarded about $10,000 worth of equipment and completely sterilized the sink twice,” McDonnell said.
