Police: Thief apologized as he took cash
Suburban Chicago police said a thief apologized as he stole money from a woman at an ATM outside of a bank.
Police in Midlothian said the man, who was dressed in dark clothes, grabbed three $20 bills from the woman as she was taking them from the Harris Bank drive-through ATM, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday.
I'm sorry, investigators quoted the man as saying to his victim during the incident last week.
But I've got kids at home, and I really need the money.
Officers said a second man approached the passenger side of the woman's car while the first man was taking her money, but walked away after finding the door locked.
The first man took the woman's ATM card and PIN number and withdrew $200 before walking away from the woman's car, police said.
