Police: Man reported fake bank robbery

Posted on: Tuesday, 23 December 2008, 17:45 CST

Police have arrested a disgruntled bank customer in Illinois who allegedly called 911 and reported a non-existent robbery.

Investigators said John Pighee Jr., 58, called 911 shortly before noon Monday and reported a robbery at the Bank of America branch in Bolingbrook, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday.

Lt. Ken Teppel said Pighee called the emergency number after attempting to withdraw money the bank had a hold on and being told the money would not be released.

He picked up his cell phone, called 911 and reported that the bank was being robbed, Teppel said. He never relayed to the employees he was going to rob the bank, and he never showed a weapon.

Teppel said police entered the bank after determining that it was not being robbed and arrested Pighee on disorderly conduct charges.
