County seals newspaper, Twinkie for 2058
Workers at a courthouse in Franklin County, Wash., said they sealed items including a county budget and a Twinkie inside a time capsule.
The workers said they used an old vault at the Franklin County Courthouse as a time capsule to send items that also included computer equipment, a cell phone, a phone book and a Cousins Restaurant menu to county workers expected to open the capsule in 2058, the Tri-City Herald (Columbia, Wash.) reported Friday.
Also sealed in the capsule are a copy of the Nov. 5 Tri-City Herald reporting Barack Obama’s presidential victory and a letter from County Administrator Fred Bowen detailing current events and county history.
Bowen said workers decided to include the Twinkie after hearing the individually wrapped snake cakes have a shelf life of more than 50 years.
It’s something to let them know we have a sense of humor too,
Bowen said.
