A British couple who renewed their vows for their 60th wedding anniversary said they have held ceremonies every year since 1950 to restate their commitment.

Margaret and John Beauvoisin said the only year they did not renew their vows, following their Dec. 27, 1948, wedding, was 1949, because John had been stationed in Bermuda with the Royal Navy, The Daily Mail reported Monday.

Margaret Beauvoisin, 81, said renewing the vows she and her husband first took 60 years ago reinforces our promise to love and care for one another.

He loves me and looks after me, she said of the secret to her happy marriage. We have remained faithful and love our family. Unlike my mother I’m a terrible housewife really and not very good at keeping the house clean. But John puts up with that and keeps on loving me and looking after me.

As if on cue, John Beauvoisin, 84, said, I still love her somehow.
