Pie council suggests pastry celebrations
The Illinois-based American Pie Council suggests people mark Friday’s National Pie Day holiday by engaging in
random acts of pieness.
The American Pie Council, which is dedicated to promoting its namesake pastry, released a list of suggested celebrations for National Pie Day, including baking, eating and sharing pie.
The council also suggested teaching pie making classes at schools and stores, holding pot-luck pie parties with pastry buffets, and registering for the 2009 APC Crisco National Pie Championships, being held April 24-26 at the Orlando Sun Resort in Kissimmee, Fla.
Charity options listed by the council include organizing pie-eating, pie-throwing or pie-making contests with proceeds donated to local food banks.
The group also stressed the importance of preserving
pie heritage by safeguarding family recipes and keeping the history and stories surrounding them alive for new generations.
