Man arrested for elevator fire
New York police allege an inebriated 24-year-old commodities trader started a fire when he got stuck in an elevator on the 40th floor of 7 World Trade Center.
Ryan Brinkerhoff was charged Saturday with four counts of arson, the New York Post reported Sunday.
Brinkerhoff, who works on the 34th floor for DRW Commodities, allegedly wandered into the building drunk and pressed the wrong button in the elevator, which took him one floor above his office, police told the Post.
He allegedly then got into a freight elevator that took him to the 40th floor but would not let him out because he did not have a password, police said.
Trying to attract attention to his plight, Brinkerhoff allegedly sprayed aerosol cleaning fluid under the door and set it on fire, which set off an alarm and returned the elevator to the ground floor, where he was met by security guards, the Post reported.
When asked about the incident Saturday, Brinkerhoff laughed and told reporters,
I don't know what you are talking about.
