Huge sticky roll produced in Vietnam
A sticky rice roll more than 111 feet long and weighing more than a ton has been cooked in Vietnam to raise money for the poor, a radio network reports.
The Voice of Vietnam reported Sunday that scores of Nha Thrang-area residents and international visitors descended on the Yasaka-SaiGon-Nha Trang Hotel Saturday to witness the long roll firsthand.A procession of 78 people carried the cake out in front of the hotel for its grand debut.
The celebration included girls in traditional Vietnamese costumes and several so-called lion dancers.
The sticky rice roll was boiled for hours at a nearby beach and is filled with ingredients from throughout Vietnam's geographic regions, the Voice of Vietnam said.
The radio network said pieces of the roll, which weighs more than 2,094 pounds, were offered up for 57 cents each with all proceeds benefiting the Fund for the Poor in Nha Thrang.
