More than 35 lbs of pot found in gas tank

Police in Utah said an auto mechanic discovered about $35,000 worth of marijuana hidden in the gas tank of a vehicle.

Investigators said the owner of the car, who is not a suspect, brought the 2009 Nissan Armada, which was formerly a rental vehicle, to Tim Dahle Nissan in Sandy, Utah, to determine why the gas gauge never registered more than half full, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Wednesday.

A mechanic at the business opened up the vehicle's gas tank and discovered packages containing more than 35 pounds of marijuana. Police said the drugs may have been hidden inside the car for several months.

Police said they are investigating how the marijuana ended up in the gas tank and the car's current owner is not a suspect.
