Bloomberg: Subway verdict incomprehensible
February 19, 2009
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg labeled a jury’s award of $2.3 million to a man who lost his leg under a subway train while drunk incomprehensible.
Dustin Dibble, 25, won the payout in a suit against New York City Transit, which has vowed to appeal the verdict. Dibble drunkenly fell onto the subway tracks April 25, 2006, and lost his leg beneath a train, the New York Post reported Thursday.
Sometimes, juries do things that you find a little incomprehensible,
Bloomberg said.
I wasn’t sitting in the courtroom. I wasn’t on the jury. But on the face of it, you’d think there’s a personal responsibility here,
he said. And I think a lot of us should be a little more responsible for our own behavior.
