Staff at a popular outdoor pool in London said they have been told that the pool will be closed if weather conditions become too wet.

Workers at the London Fields Lido pool said they have been told by the local Hackney council that the pool could be closed under health and safety regulations if rainfall becomes too heavy, the Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

Hackney council confirmed in a statement that it has adopted measures to close the pool during rainfall, but noted the action would only be taken on rare occasions.

In exceptional circumstances the pool may require to be closed in order to protect users’ safety, the statement said. For example, exceptionally heavy rain or foggy conditions can distort the clarity of the water, restricting lifeguards’ visibility and their ability to keep swimmers safe.
