Off-duty cop delivers son in car
Police in New York state said an off-duty officer pulled over to the side of the road and delivered his son after his wife went into labor.
Southampton Town police said in a statement that Peter Jurgensen of Riverhead dialed 911 at about 4:44 a.m. Wednesday and told the dispatcher that he was on the way to the hospital with his pregnant wife, Karen, and
delivery was imminent, Newsday reported Wednesday.
Police said 911 dispatcher Tammy Wilson
provided clear and concise medical direction to the off-duty officer and he delivered the baby boy in his family car as emergency responders arrived to give assistance.
Authorities said the family was
doing fine in a hospital later Wednesday.
